A Short A Day – Phantom Theater
Phantom Theater

Phantom TheaterMr. Fright just can’t let go of Halloween in Phantom Theater.

Synopsis

A small town is terrorized by an ex-tv show host Mr. Fright, who takes Halloween tricks a little too far.

Review

First of all, the editing is very tight in this short. There was a fair amount of coverage that went into Phantom Theater, and a whole lot of love too. It has the air of a low budget but doesn’t try to get pretentious in what it’s selling: fear and horror.

In a couple scenes the lenses were being pushed to their focal limits but that can’t be seen as a detriment to this type of film. It only adds to the tension, as we see Mr. Fright out-of-focus with a hatchet sneaking up on an unsuspecting victim in a cornfield.

We don’t see the actual kill, which only leaves it to the imagination of the audience. This is one of the cornerstones of good horror. In many instances, less truly is more. That’s what makes Phantom Theater stand out among the more generic slashers.

Where it seems to fall down is in the ending. The resolution to the story just isn’t there. In my opinion it isn’t really an ending; it’s a beginning to something longer.
