Tzara Foster is on the run in an uncertain future in The Sentient.
Synopsis
Tzara Foster is running from the establishment. But what is she?
Review
Tzara Foster (Allene Quincy) is in trouble. When we first see her she’s lying in a tub while a young prostitute, Chloe (Nik Isbelle), watches a holographic projection near the edge of the tub. Her mind is being downloaded/repaired while an assault team is making its way up the stairs of the dingy hotel.
Chloe helps her come out of the stupor she was in just as an assault team beats down the door.
We see that Tzara is extremely capable as she dispatches several heavily armed men bare-handed. We soon find out why as she leaps out of the hotel room.
This is another example of the labor of love by many artists in the film industry. Everybody donated their time to this project and gave it a lot of that love. There is very little in terms of exposition in The Sentient. We as the audience must fill in the pieces as we go along, which is fine. Many great films of our past leave questions unanswered for us to ponder on.
It’s evident that the society depicted in The Sentient is dystopic, or at least that is what we’re led to believe. By the end we know that Tzara is a rogue android, one that must be put down because of what she knows or did. It’s in the same vein, or maybe artery, as Blade Runner, without the lingering moments of philosophical dialogue. In a way it makes it more straightforward and easier to digest the larger bits.
One should watch this a few times too, however, to catch every morsel of its message in its entirety.
