Review

These kinds of films never get old for me. Dystopia has many faces, from Blade Runner to Moon 44. Somewhere in-between is Sterlising Sol-3. In this incarnation of bleakness, Earth has become a battleground of mercenary forces looking to make a large land grab. It’s the same play Lex Luthor made in the first Superman with a futuristic twist. Habitable land is valuable but the life living on it is not.

The editing is a bit too quick and choppy in the nearly-continuous action sequences in the film. That made Sterlising almost unwatchable in sections but could easily be saved with an extended or remastered cut. The pacing is there but the cuts are a bit too tight.

Sean Lahiff, the film’s writer and director, would go on after this to work on many major Hollywood blockbusters, including visual effects editing on The Hunger Games and Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2. So from here we get a glimpse of what Mr. Lahiff would become later.
