A Short A Day – INSiDE

Take a trip into mental hell with INSiDE.

Synopsis

A patient at a mental institution is being evaluated by a psychologist. The biggest problem is figuring out just who the doctor is talking to.

Review

This one was a roller coaster. A veritable cavalcade of characters. And they’re all inside one guy’s head. He’s up for observation for a possible supervised release next week? If the doctor could see the circus of crazy running around inside his head that seems to grow larger with each passing second she would toss him back in that rubber room and shoot him up with thorazine. Or can she?

At times disturbing and sometimes funny (the personalities argue with each other), you get just a sliver of a glimpse into what it might be like to live with this kind of mental disorder. The acting in this required very careful timing, no doubt we’re seeing the end result of many takes.

You also start to feel very sorry for Daniel, the host. In those few moments where he is in control, he looks frustrated. And he well should be. Anyone can control him simply by walking up and gesticulating or speaking. He’s a giant puppet, a conduit for the others to talk and operate through him.

I won’t give away the twist ending. It’s hinted at in one point during the film, but then makes itself very apparent at the end.
