Strange Adventures in Infinite Space is the brainchild of indie game developer Digital Eel. While it does have a few signs of age on it, this hybrid strategy/adventure game is still quite fun to play. It’s a quickie space opera for those of us that have been looking for a quickie space opera.
One of the strong points going for SAIS is its advertised playability; you can run through an entire game in five to twenty minutes. Couple that with the ability to make your own mods for it, and this little guy has a lot going for it. I still bring it up for a quick game here and there when I need a quick break.
The objective is simple straightforward – explore the randomly-generated Purple Void for your boss and collect treasure, engage in combat, and make it back home before the deadline to collect your reward. During your trip you can collect an eclectic assortment of treasures and add-ons for your ship, as well as traveling companions to help you in some of the more fiercer combat.
Originally SAIS was for sale, but Digital Eel has made both the source code available under the GPL and the compiled game as freeware. The game’s assets, however, are still under copyright, but I do recommend looking over the source code for the more curious.
Platforms: Windows, Mac OS 9 and OS X, Palm OS 5.0 and higher, and PocketPC.

I can’t seem to get this running in Windows 7. I have tried the compatibility options. If anyone has any suggestions, or can work the sourcecode to make it compatible it would be appreciated.
Thanks!
