Although I was there for only 5 hours, I had a blast at the Full Moon Tattoo & Horror Festival. The show’s organizers did a really awesome job of putting it together, although I think they could’ve used just a tad more space for some of the show, especially the tattoo section.
I was not expecting a large number of guests, but in fact there were more guests than there were dealers in the dealer room, all signing autographs, taking pictures, and so on. It was interesting to stand back and watch the flow of traffic go from the horror section into the tattoo section, then back. Almost like a tide.
On a funny note, while I and my friends were in the tattoo section (which was crowded and somewhat small), we stood by to let some of the traffic go by. A short girl walked by us, and for a moment I caught a glimpse of her face. I did a double take and looked over at one of my friends.
“That’s uncanny. That girl looks exactly like the girl from Halloween 4 and 5!” I said.
“What?” one of my less-horror-informed friends asked.
I shrugged it off and we went back into the dealer room. Sure enough, the girl was there, and proceeded to sit down at the table next to Derek Mears, the new Jason in the new Friday the 13th. And yep, it was Danielle Harris. I proceeded to wipe the egg off my face on that one.
The guest list this year was quite impressive. In no particular order:
- Danielle Harris
- Derek Mears
- Gunnar Hansen (the original Leatherface)
- John Dugan
- Sid Haig
- William Forsythe
- Ken Foree
- C.J. Graham
- Kane Hodder
- Chris Sarandon (Jerry Dandrige in Fright Night and Prince Humperdinck in Princess Bride)
- Lloyd Kaufman (co-founder of Troma Films)
- Jason Mewes
- Ellen Sandweiss
- Betsy Baker
- Theresa Tilly
So we had 3 guys who all played Jason Voorhees, all sitting relatively near each other. It was quite interesting to see.
If you’ve never been to a horror festival before and want to experience something a little out there, go to one. You won’t regret it.
