We are now in the last stages of pre-production, with 1 week left until we start burning film. Of course, we’re not really burning any film at all, since this is being done in HD.
Everything is being finalized and set in place for the coming 20 day shoot. There’s an old saying in the industry that a film is actually made in pre-production, and the principal photography is just a record of it. A line producer says you shoot a budget and a schedule.
No matter. It all boils down to this: if you don’t do your work in pre-production, your film will fall flat on its butt coming out of the gate. That’s one of the hard facts of this business.
Wardrobe and makeup will be arriving in town on Tuesday, as well as the special f/x team headed by Gene Witham. I hope to spend some more time with him before we go into shooting. Hopefully I can help mix blood 🙂
I found out tonight that there is one particular pyro-based special effect in this film that has never, ever been done before. If anything, the movie is going to be worth it just for that shot. Cross your fingers and wish us luck with it, because we only get 1 chance to get the shot right.
I’ve put up a new album here in my pictures for some pictures of behind-the-scenes action while we film. As we go along (and I get the time for it), I’ll put some of the pictures up so everyone can see the film progress.
Of course, anything top secret I can’t put up there. You know, secret squirrel oath and all.
Stay tuned. I will try to post as much as I can this week in anticipation of shooting.
