Hope everyone had a happy Easter weekend. Sorry for not posting in so long. The Director and one of the Producers just left for L.A. this morning, so we were in crunch mode for the last few days getting as much done as possible.
It’s weird to me, but people are starting to recognize me on the street as “that guy that wrote that story.” Since this is all new to me, I’m still getting used to it, but it’s kinda cool. Even got asked for my autograph a few times.
Got a few more locations locked down now, so we’re almost done with that part. Once that is done, a good part of my own pre-production work will be over, but then that opens up to the next stage of pre-prod.
The house has been converted into a full production office. The dining room is now like the nerve center for the whole operation. It was surreal this morning, eating eggs at the dinner table and being surrounded by glossy photos of the various people we’re considering for casting, a large map of all the locations, pictures of the locations, and large calendars of everyone’s schedules. It’s a reality check for me that this thing is actually happening.
1st AD comes back tomorrow and he and I will be working through most of the day to get a day out of days done for the shoot. What that means is, we create a single sheet of the entire shoot schedule, then we make a page for each day of the shoot that has every minute of the day planned down to the minute. Who’s where, doing what, and when. I feel really confident in his ability to pull this off in a short amount of time.
I regret not being able to spend more time with Gene, our makeup f/x guy. I mean, there I was at Ryan’s, sitting across the table from the guy who taught Rick Baker! While we did have some good conversations, we didn’t have a lot of time this go-around to sit and talk some more. I’d love to spend a day just asking questions and learning from him.
Wardrobe is beginning to shape up nicely. While it isn’t really needed for the contemporary scenes, we have quite a number of flashbacks set in the 1860s. Plus our little chap has a bit of gentry class wardrobe himself, so we have to make sure he’s fitted right.
More to come later. Stay tuned…
