I was surprised to see such a quick followup to Owen’s original post at Streaming Colour Studios regarding his brutally honest sales numbers and figures and the reaction that followed. The guy got hammered pretty hard not only by Slashdot, but it seems a good majority of the blogging and geek world.

Spent the better part of the night porting the data and code over from C into something a little more manageable in Python for Star Merchant 2. Everything appears to be progressing nicely so far. The commerce aspects of the new game are a little different now, which I will explain.

The big debate though is traditional media vs. downloads-only. Why not offer ISOs of the discs or an optional “Buy the CD/DVD” for a few bucks on-demand? It’s true that your average user wouldn’t know an ISO image from a Word document, but most gamers are a little bit above average at least.
