A New Flavor gives us an oft-funny look into modern relationships. Sometimes finding the right person means looking outside your normal bounds.
Synopsis
After a series of failures in relationships, a young woman decides to give up on men and forget about love. Until a best friend suggests a new quest to find love, only this time with other women.
Review
Jill’s had it with guys. She’s moping around her apartment, eating ice cream and feeling sorry for herself. That’s when her friend Rachel mentions trying to find love with women, if men were giving her so many problems. She hooks up with a matchmaker who plans out a series of rather funny dates. Hey, you gotta pound the pavement and see who’s out there, be it man or woman.
After a date with a great woman and then disclosing the fact she’s not a lesbian but rather “trying it out”, Jill comes to realize something about herself. She was really connecting with her, not just “as girlfriends”. It felt more like a real date than she had had in a long time.
Rachel tries to cheer Jill up over dinner at a nice restaurant. Over their meal, Jill realizes that her relationships never worked out so well is because they were never as good as the one she had with Rachel. The two kiss (finally), and walk off together into a hopefully happy future together.
Overall the story was one that is easily relatable. Camera work was right on the edge of out-of-focus at some points but that may be due to limitations of lenses and camera. Vu Nguyen manages some competent shots though without any crazy camera angles or strange choices in motivation. Sound was mixed quite well. The lighthearted score worked to enhance the humor in many of the scenes.
Whether or not you’re straight I believe makes no difference if you’ll get this story. It’s something everybody experiences. I’m straight (boringly so, as some of my friends say) and I could still relate to the problems Jill encounters. The heart wants what the heart wants, no matter what.

Ran across this by chance, actually. I enjoyed this view, and there was even a twist, not what I was expecting. Thank you for sharing this.
Glad you enjoyed it. There’s a bunch more ASADs on here. I’ll be starting those again here soon.
