A Short A Day – Prism

Today we delve into some sci-fi action with the wonderful Prism.

Synopsis

Two kids sneak into a technology convention and steal a teleportation device. They find themselves on the run after the ruthless owners of the device hunt them down at every turn to get it back at any cost.

Review

This was previously mentioned on the September 2011 roundup but I wanted to give it a more thorough review since it did stick out for me as a great short film. The story is fast-paced if a little thin. But that doesn’t detract from the action that pulls you right through to the end.

The sound and music flow well together and the dialogue levels are given equal footing in the soundtrack. Characters talking don’t get overwhelmed by the score one bit. I would suggest if you have the bandwidth and screen real estate that you take the resolution on this one up as high as you can and hit the “Full screen” button.

For all of the eye-popping special effects in this, it’s still a well-rounded action short. You could take all of the sci-fi elements out of it, make it contemporary, and it would still be worth viewing in my opinion.

As a final note, this was shot over the course of 2 nights in downtown Los Angeles. A hectic, fast-paced schedule for something with production values this big. A lot of prep work into this, and it shows in the final product.
