Free Games Are Good Part 1 – Glest

In going through my bookmarks in a vain effort to organize them, I came upon my Games sub-folder and decided to put a few of on here for anyone interested.

These games are all free.  Some are Flash-based, while others are downloadable.  In either case, they range from short but fun to complex but fun.

Glest – The Free Real-Time Strategy Game

This RTS game/engine has come quite a long way in a short period of time.  If you’re into the RTS genre and want to roll your own, this is an excellent place to start.

From the site:

Glest is a free 3D real-time strategy game, where you control the armies of two different factions: Tech, which is mainly composed of warriors and mechanical devices, and Magic, that prefers mages and summoned creatures in the battlefield.

Glest is not just a game, but also an engine to make strategy games, based on XML and a set of tools. A few mods already exist.

That doesn’t mean if you’re looking for a complete game that you won’t find one there.  It’s a full game, but you also get the tools to make your own mods or even complete conversions.
