Edit: I’ve changed the link to point to a new source for sfxr.
I’ve been using sfxr for a few months now, mainly to generate simple sound effects for some of my projects. It takes the process of creating certain types of sound effects, from the 8-bit era of Nintendo, with incredible ease.
DrPetter, creator of sfxr, made it for the Ludum Dare 48-Hour Competition in order to very quickly make sound effects during said 48 hours. It certainly makes it extremely easy.
You can visit DrPetter’s sfxr page and download it for free. It’s amazing what can be borne out of need with a little bit of know-how and talent. Take a look at the other projects there. They’re worth a look.
And if you’re really up for a challenge, I highly recommend Ludum Dare.
