Spent the late night/early morning hours installing Kubuntu 8.04 re-installed and tweaked up on my dinky Dell Inspiron laptop with a burned out screen and external monitor hookup.  Why, do you ask?

I had a need to know if Star Merchant would compile without any modifications to the source.  Of course it didn’t.  But thankfully, there were only 3 or 4 errors and warnings which were easily fixed with a quick look around online at some of the eccentricities of libc for Linux.  I wrote a small Makefile to go with it to ease the burden of compiling and installing everything as well.

I’ve also beefed up the Star Merchant page here, not only with the latest source, but with download and installation instructions for all you Linux users that want to play this game but couldn’t.

So go get it and play!
