In time for me to say “Merry Christmas”, I’ve just finished putting the pages for Perils of Pothril and Star Merchant. These are 2 games that I managed to whip out in 2008, while also tending to my other duties of writing and maintaining several web sites. Both compiled Windows executables and C source code are available for download.
Both of these games are text-based and built using PDCurses on Windows (or alternatively ncurses for Linux.) No shiny graphics here, just good ol’ ASCII.
Star Merchant is a game of interstellar commerce. Easy to learn but it can take a while to master. I will probably revisit this to expand on it later, but for now this version is complete. I originally ported this from BASIC to C for Cymon’s Games, and it apparently was popular with his readers.
Perils of Pothril is nowhere near finished, but I am working on it. You can try it out, check out the horrid source code and laugh along with me, and see where I take it next.
Merry Christmas
